Auckland Airport recently constructed a new fuel pit as part of its ongoing infrastructure upgrades, and Elephant NZ was brought in to complete all waterproofing work. Fuel pits are high‑risk structures that must be completely sealed from the start to prevent fuel seepage, groundwater contamination, and long‑term structural damage. Because of this, the waterproofing system needs to be installed with precision and to strict engineering standards.

Our team began by preparing the new concrete surface. Even with new construction, proper preparation is essential for long‑term performance. We carried out moisture checks, treated all joints and cracks, and primed the surface to ensure the membrane would bond correctly. This creates a stable base for the waterproofing system and helps prevent future issues.

Once the surface was ready, we installed a high‑performance, fuel‑resistant waterproofing membrane designed specifically for below‑ground environments. This type of system provides a seamless, durable barrier that protects the structure from both water ingress and fuel exposure. Every penetration, corner, and junction was carefully detailed to eliminate weak points and ensure complete waterproofing integrity.

Throughout the project, we followed strict quality‑control processes and provided full documentation to meet Auckland Airport’s engineering and environmental requirements. This included installation photos, compliance records, and final QA checks to ensure the system met all specifications.
